Russia is no threat to Ireland, never has been and won’t be invading any time soon, or ever. Is Russia a threat to Ireland? I refer to recently published scary media reports relating to upcoming Russian naval exercises to the southwest of Ireland. Russia is no threat to Ireland, never has been and won’t be invading any time soon, or ever. Naval military exercises continually take place in international waters, including by the US, North Korea, and soon, joint activities between Russia, Iran and China in the Indian Ocean. Air traffic over Ireland’s air space is routed through established, well-regulated air corridors away from where naval military activities take place. Constantly, newspaper feature articles and letters to the editors push for Ireland to get more involved in the EU, NATO and the UN military. The main contributors are ex-career soldiers; of course, if more of the State’s finances are allocated to military spending, those systematically indoctrinated men will benefit from enhanced pensions. These ongoing scare announcements are meant to get Ireland involved in increased military spending and military escapades the country can ill afford. A prime aim of this scaremongering is to make massive profits for armament industries and fat financial rewards for benefiting individuals. |
